What is green power, why do we use it so less?

I as hosting-provider/data-center operator or data-carrier why should I migrate to green power now?
- because the FACTs commend it, see our News, or e.g. here: http://www.kefk.net/Hardware/Energie/Verbrauch/index.asp (there you can find a unluckily old graph that shows the power consumption of many CPUs)
- because it is still a niche, where you can find by adequate prices very fast a lot of customers.
- because it is an image-improvement for you and your customers
- it is simply good for you and your customers and even their descendants ;-)
- because it boosts your country as a place for high-technology and saves or create workplaces.
Nice, but the most ISPs have only rented some space in a data-center, what can they do?
So here is less or no influence on the used power and the data-center itself, we recommend the following:
- look for other interested ISPs, if enough ISPs exits to rent the full space of a "green" data-center, the chance for getting such isn't low. We please all interested ISPs to mail us over our contact form, so we can give you the contact-adresses of other ISPs and data-center operators.
- look that no longterm rental contracts with the data-center are made
- try to cancel longterm rental-contracts with data-centers
- try to influence your data-center-operator to use green power and ask him periodically.
What other ideas are possible for ISPs/Data-Center-Operators to get cheap green power?
- You are ISP and your neighbour is farmer with a great roof on the house, that he uses via solarcells as power-source or want to use so, and he has possibly a biogas plant, too => talk to him!!
- You are green power provider and want to increase your customer-circle and you know one ore more little ISPs => make an offer to them over their customeres you can reach many people, especially your offer is so good, that the ISP uses only your green power.
- You live in a wood-rich area? And there are Holzhackschnitzel-plants or planned such plants? then talk to the owner of such a plant!!
